Introducing Our New PE Leadership Academy!

We are excited to launch the 2025 PE Leadership Academy, an exciting new initiative designed to inspire and empower our students through sport and physical education. The academy aims to provide opportunities for students to develop their leadership skills, take an active role in school and community events, and grow as successful learners, responsible citizens, and confident individuals.

Through the PE Leadership Academy, students will have the chance to take on real responsibilities—helping to organise activities, lead younger pupils in sports sessions, support school events, and represent the school in the wider community. These experiences will not only strengthen teamwork, communication, and organisational skills, but also help students build confidence and pride in their contributions to school life.

If you are enthusiastic about sport, enjoy working with others, and want to make a positive difference, the PE Leadership Academy could be perfect for you!

To find out more about how to get involved, please speak to a member of the PE Department for further details.

Sports Leadership Academy

Our Sports Leadership Academy is designed to develop the next generation of confident, responsible, and inspiring young leaders through sport. Open to students with a passion for physical activity and teamwork, the programme provides a platform to learn, lead, and make a positive impact within the school and wider community.

Qualities Developed:
Students in the academy build essential personal qualities such as confidence, resilience, empathy, and integrity. They learn the importance of communication, reliability, and leading by example — both on and off the field.

Skills Learned:
Through practical workshops, event organisation, and coaching experiences, our leaders gain valuable skills in teamwork, planning, officiating, public speaking, and problem-solving. These transferable skills support success across all areas of school life and beyond.

Opportunities Created:
Members of the Sports Leadership Academy take on roles such as organising primary school sports festivals, assisting with extra-curricular clubs, and supporting major school sporting events. Many also work towards nationally recognised leadership qualifications, opening doors to future careers in sport, teaching, and community work.

Recent Success:
Our student leaders have recently achieved outstanding success, leading inclusive sports festivals for local primary schools and volunteering over 500 hours across wigan school games and our school community. Several academy members have progressed to complete their officiating qualification in netball, football, rugby, cricket and athletics. Their enthusiasm and dedication continue to set an excellent example for younger students.
