Passion for Geography

In Geography at SCHS we will instil a passion for learning about our world and in doing so ensure that our students are happy, healthy and value the importance of geography in their lives and the wider world. Each student will have the opportunity to benefit from a wide range of memorable learning experiences throughout their learning journey within and beyond the classroom.

Broad and Deep Knowledge

Our students will explore different environments on a local, national and international scale, securing a depth of knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of natural and human landscapes.

Geographers will explore the diversity of the British Isles, developing a sense of place and identity through the investigation of links between regions, as well as understanding the complex issues and relationships between the British Isles, Europe and the global community in the 21st century.

Skills for the Future

Our students will appreciate the wider relevance of geography and will be equipped with essential and invaluable transferable skills to ameliorate their progress in other curriculum areas within school as well as maximising their potential for successes in life after school. Throughout their time at SCHS students will investigate key concepts, processes and patterns and make sense of geographical data. They will think critically through geographical enquiry, consider different views and justify their own views with confidence.

Personal development

We embrace every opportunity to develop mature, independent learners with a sense of responsibility, morality and empathy in reaching credible conclusions and offering feasible solutions to current issues. This appreciation of values, cultural diversity and social responsibility will aid the development of well-rounded global citizens. Our geography curriculum encourages future generations to understand how their lives are connected to others through interdependence and how the human and physical environment are interrelated, shaping them into responsible and competent young adults.
