Health and Social Care will develop and prepare students in both an academic and practical way. It will instil essential skills in students such as confidence, communication, dignity and respect. Health and Social Care will help students to mature into well-rounded confident citizens and successful learners who can work and think independently.
The curriculum will challenge pupils to reach their potential by inspiring all to stretch their depth of thought and understand vocabulary linked to the Health and Social Care profession. They will develop different levels of language by accessing experiences beyond the classroom with different client groups and services offered. Students will assess, examine and discuss key topics within the specification, to unlock a deeper level of thought and understanding.
Students will experience British Values by learning and practising respect, tolerance and diversity in a variety of Health and Social Care environments. Students will enhance their leadership and organisation skills as they plan and prepare “hands on” experiences through the vocational pathway of the course. From this, students gain an understanding and appreciation of their possible destinations beyond Standish Community High School and create memorable, lifetime experiences in real working environments.
Students will understand factors that can affect our mental health and physical wellbeing. They will appreciate life stages and how our lives can be affected with expected and unexpected life events at different points. The Health and Social Care curriculum will encourage students to lead active and healthy lifestyles with a focus on positive mental wellbeing.
Pupils will actively engage in Health and Social Care lessons. The Health and Social Care curriculum will inspire learners to be confident individuals who feel valued and resilient enough to learn through different degrees of challenge.
