British Values

At Standish Community High School, we are committed to students becoming successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. These aspirations form the foundation of how we embed and promote British Values within our school community. The fundamental British Values—democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance and understanding of other faiths and beliefs—align seamlessly with our ethos and support our aim to provide a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment for all.

Through our student ambassador roles and wider leadership opportunities, we encourage students to engage actively in decision-making processes. By representing the views of their peers and contributing to whole-school initiatives, students experience democracy in action. They are taught to lead with fairness, integrity and respect, while modelling compassion and service to others.

Our enrichment and extra-curricular programme offer a wealth of opportunities that promote personal growth, respect for diversity and meaningful community participation. Whether through sports, the arts, academic clubs or local community projects, students are supported to exercise individual liberty by exploring their interests and talents in a supportive environment. Activities such as charity fundraising and community events enable students to put our values into practice, fostering a strong sense of mutual respect and appreciation for others, regardless of background or belief.

Within the curriculum, we strive to develop well-rounded individuals who are both academically capable and morally grounded. Subjects such as our Personal Development Programme (PDP), History and Religious Education provide structured opportunities to explore key themes including tolerance, justice and the rule of law. Across lessons, wider experiences and community engagement, students are supported to understand, articulate and live out these values in their everyday lives.

At Standish Community High School, we are proud to prepare our young people to be respectful, responsible and active citizens—both within our school and in the wider British society.
