Student Leadership

At Standish Community High School, student leadership is a vital part of our culture and a key element of our personal development offer. We provide a wide range of leadership opportunities that empower students to help shape our school and contribute positively to the wider community. Our Student Council, representing Years 7 to 10, help to make decisions that improve school life, including projects such as the new canopy café, enhanced seating areas, shelters, access to play equipment at lunch, improvements to recycling, and developments to the food offer in the canteen.

Student leaders also act as ambassadors for the school, taking part in interview panels, leading tours for visitors and supporting whole-school events. Specialised roles such as our Sports Council help design an inclusive Sports Day and shape the extra-curricular offer, while our Wellbeing Ambassadors promote kindness through initiatives like random acts of kindness, community litter-picks and hosting events such as the Senior Citizens Party.

Subject ambassadors play a key role too, from leading within the Sports Leadership Programme to supporting younger students in the Science Fab Lab. Additional responsibilities, such as the Student Receptionist role, help develop confidence and communication skills in real-world contexts. In Year 11, students can apply to become Prefects and Senior Prefects with the appointments of our Head and Deputy Head Prefects made through a democratic vote by students and staff.

Through these varied and purposeful opportunities, our students develop into successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens who make a genuine difference to our school and community.
