We would like to offer our heartfelt congratulations to the class of 2025 who have achieved exceptional GCSE results, marking a proud moment for our students, the school and our wider community.
This cohort’s journey has been unlike any other: their Year 6 education came to an abrupt end in March 2020, when the country entered its first national lockdown. As they began their secondary school journey with us, they returned not to the usual bustling corridors of high school life, but to learning in year group bubbles, wearing face masks and spending much of their first year based in the Humanities building.
Despite these extraordinary challenges, our class of 2025 demonstrated resilience, determination and positivity. Over the last five years, they have not only adapted but thrived – building lasting friendships, supporting one another and striving every day to achieve their very best.
Our class of 2025 achieved 69% Grade 9-4 in English and maths, which reflects 87% Grade 9-4 in English and 72% Grade 9-4 in maths. We are also celebrating the success of those students who have achieved ‘strong passes’ in English – 74% achieved Grade 9-5.
Their outstanding achievements are a true testament to their dedication and perseverance. As a school we could not be prouder – not only of their academic success but also of the strength of character they have demonstrated throughout their time with us. Likewise, the unwavering professionalism, commitment and enthusiasm of our teaching and support staff. Their dedication has ensured that every student had the encouragement, guidance and inspiration needed to succeed. Equally, we extend our sincere gratitude to the parents and families of the class of 2025. Their steadfast support, encouragement and partnership with the school have played a vital role in this success story.
In amongst this outstanding overall picture of success, several individual subject areas are able to boast outstanding attainment at Grade 9-4: biology 100%, chemistry 100%, physics 100%, further maths 100%, graphics 97%, health and social care 96%, 3D design 94%, ICT 90%, French 90%, digital photography 87%, textiles 86%, English Literature 83%, Spanish 81% and RE 80%.
There have been many exceptional performances and much to be pleased about. Special mention should be given to the students who collectively achieved 279 Grade 8s or 9s (or Distinction *s) across all subjects – including one student who achieved an amazing 10 straight Grade 9s. These grades represent the highest possible levels of success for a student.
Standish Community High School Headteacher, Lindsay Barker, said:
“I could not be prouder of this year group. Their journey has been unique, shaped by extraordinary circumstances, yet they have approached every challenge with resilience, optimism and determination. These results reflect not only their academic talent but also their spirit, character and sense of community. These traits will serve them extremely well as they go on to face future challenges in life and grasp future opportunities in their educational journey. I am also delighted for the members of staff who have provided many hours of additional academic support and pastoral care in order to provide all our students with the dedicated support to achieve their very best. They have worked tirelessly with students, developing their confidence, resilience and self-belief. On behalf of everyone at Standish Community High School, I warmly congratulate each and every student on their achievements and wish them every success in the exciting paths that lie ahead.”
The class of 2025 has shown us all the power of resilience, teamwork and ambition. They leave Standish not only with outstanding qualifications but with the skills and qualities that will carry them into the future with confidence. The success of this cohort of students clearly reflects the accomplishment of a collaborative commitment made by students, staff, parents and governors.
