Happy Retirement, Mrs Gaskell!

Today we bid a fond farewell to Mrs Gaskell, who works in Student Reception. After nineteen years of dedicated service, Mrs Gaskell will be retiring from Standish, bringing to a close a career defined by quiet commitment and an unfailing focus on the students.

Mrs Gaskell joined the school in September 2007, initially based in what is now Mrs Barker’s office as part of the Head of Year team. From those early days, she became known as someone colleagues could rely on completely. For many years she worked closely with Mrs Taylor – with whom she shared a wonderful working relationship – and she has also worked alongside Mr Morgan and Mrs Murray, both of whom – like so many others – will miss her greatly.

Although Mrs Gaskell’s role has evolved over the last two decades, the one constant theme that runs through her work has been supporting students. That support has taken many forms: from organising the Year 11 prom and helping to produce the yearbook, to making sure biscuits and snacks found their way to hungry pupils heading into after-school revision, Mrs Gaskell has always been there. Most students will know her kind and patient face from student reception – where she can be found every day, dealing with lost jumpers, forgotten bus fares, ice packs and everything else a school day can throw up!

Mrs Gaskell is not someone who seeks the spotlight. Instead, she is quietly dependable, loyal and efficient – one of those unsung heroes whose work makes Standish such a special place.

Everyone at Standish will miss her enormously and wishes her a long, happy, and well-earned retirement. Mrs Gaskell has given so much to this school and she truly deserves it!
